Club Organization
The club has seven committees responsible for
each area of club operations. Each director will be appointed to
serve on at least one committee. The committees and their functions:
- Regatta
- The largest of the committees, responsible for the organization
and operation of the annual Head of the Des Moines Regatta. It
is composed of several subcommittees. Chairs are: Marketing and
Public Relations, Official Organization, River and Grounds setup.
The number of members on the committee should not exceed five,
however there will be many volunteers for individual regatta committees.
- Equipment and Facilities
- Responsible for the scheduling, purchase and maintenance of
all rowing equipment; the purchase and maintenance of other equipment
including trailers and docks; and the maintenance of leased or
owned facilities. The committee has the authority to purchase
equipment costing less than $500 without the prior approval of
the Board of Directors. The number of members on the committee
should not exceed five.
- Rowing Activities
- Responsible for the operation of the annual novice training
program; development of rowing skills of the members; coordination
of registrations, equipment usage and travel to regattas; scheduling
of all crews; recruitment and training of coxswains; the sculling
program and the junior program. The number of members on the committee
should not exceed seven.
- Membership Development
- Responsible for the recruitment and retention of members; maintenance
of the membership list, communications with members, the web site
and the scheduling of social events for the members. The number
of members on the committee should not exceed five.
- Nominating
- Responsible for gathering, reviewing, approving and presenting
nominees for directors, officers and committee members. All members
interested in serving as director or officer or as a member of
a committee should submit their names to the Nominating Committee
at least two months in advance of the annual meeting. The number
of members on the committee should not exceed five, of whom one
shall be the President.
- Public Relations and Fundraising
- Responsible for all media contacts and other public relations
efforts and for the securing of contributions, grants and other
sources of non-member fee revenues. The number of members on the
committee should not exceed seven.
- Strategic Planning
- Responsible for the preparation of an annual strategic plan
and operating improvements, budgets to implement the plan, and
a long-term strategic plan. The number of members on the committee
should not exceed seven, one of whom shall be the immediate past
President.
